If you are looking forward to a more laid back travel experience, Chiang Rai is your destination. I personally prefer Chiang Rai over Bangkok or Pattaya. The expenses there is not very high and I found the locals super friendly. The places are also not so crowded and generally gives a very relaxing vibe.

At Doi Tung, you can visit the Mae Fah Luang Garden which is very colorful and a great place to take nice pictures. The entrance fee is reasonable at only 90 baht per person. The garden boasts a diversity of exotic flowers.
The Tree Top Walk is also a must try. The safety features were promising though the bridges may be scary for those with fear of heights. The view from above is also really beautiful.

You can enjoy a cup of green tea smoothie or milk tea with some green tea cakes while enjoying the amazing sight at Choui Fong Tea Farm . *My favorite was the green tea crepe cake* If you cant get enough of it, you can also tea leaves or powder to bring home.

Mae Sai is the northern most district of the province. There, you can visit the market and enjoy lots of yummy street food at a relatively low price. I recommend the Poh Pia Tod or deep fried spring rolls. You can also try the fried beetles, though it might not be for the faint hearted.
